Hillcroft – helping Registered Providers get the most from ECO
Between now and March 2015 the big six energy companies in the UK have to fund improvements in the energy efficiency of the UK’s housing stock through the £1.3bn (Energy Company Obligation) ECO programme.
Our view at Hillcroft is that Registered Providers; Housing Associations, Local Authorities with retained stock and ALMOs, are the organisations that should benefit most from this opportunity.
We are working with British Gas, the largest supplier of domestic energy in the UK, to promote the ECO opportunity amongst registered providers. We’re using our knowledge of the sector to work closely with housing organisations and British Gas to get the great outcomes for all parties.
We’re currently working with and talking to landlords across the UK to work up schemes that reflect their own local flavour and individual character including:
- Modelling schemes and options
- Offering help with collecting and analysing EPC and SAP data
- Using ECO as a kick-start for wider Green Deal initiatives across the Local Authority
- Exploring how smaller organisations can collaborate to create added value
- Looking in detail at the needs at certain geographical areas within the stock
- Focusing on properties in conservation areas
- Investigating the use of ECO for private rented housing including
- Temporary Accommodation portfolios
- Using ECO to leverage jobs and training

Our partnership with British Gas
We’re working with British Gas and it’s only fair to point out that there are other Energy Companies out there who also have to deliver the ECO programme. British Gas, as the largest supplier of domestic energy in the UK, has the largest share of the overall ECO programme to deliver.
We like the fact the British Gas got in touch with us to help them understand and reach out to social housing landlords better. It shows us they’re interested in listening!
